Title: Artemis Fowl
Author: Eoin Colfer
Genre: Fantasy
"Artemis Fowl" is about a 12-year-old boy named Artemis Fowl, who is a genius and a rich criminal mastermind. He comes from a family known for their illegal activities, and he wants to restore their lost wealth and power. To do this, he plans to kidnap a fairy and hold her for ransom to get gold from the fairy world. Artemis starts by researching fairies and discovers that they really exist. He learns about a fairy named Holly Short, who is a member of the LEPrecon, which is the fairy police. Artemis believes that if he captures Holly, he can negotiate for a lot of fairy gold. Using his brains and some trickery, Artemis captures Holly by setting a trap. He’s smart and always has a plan, but he doesn’t realize how tough the fairy world can be. When the fairies find out Holly is missing, their police force works together to save her.
They send a powerful dwarf named Mulch Diggums and a tough bodyguard, Root, to help. As the story unfolds, Artemis’s plans start to go wrong. Holly tries to escape, and the fairies fight back. Artemis learns more about the fairy world and starts to see that the fairies have feelings and rights, just like humans. He finds himself torn between his greed and a new understanding of the fairies as real beings. Throughout the adventure, Artemis and Holly develop a complicated relationship. They go from being enemies to forming a weird alliance. In the end, Artemis realizes that his actions have real consequences, and he decides to help Holly instead of just focusing on the gold. The story is filled with action, clever tricks, and magic. It shows how powerful friendship can be and that sometimes it’s better to do the right thing than just think about money and power. Overall, "Artemis Fowl" is an exciting story full of adventure, intelligence, and comedy.
I liked the book because it was very funny and it taught me how important friendship is and that money and power isnt always everything. The book was very interesting, and it honestly kept me at the edge of my seat waiting for what was going to happen next. I also liked how the author Eoin Colfer mixed crime, fantasy, and high-tech elements all together, and it made a very good book. I didn't like how Eoin paced the book; he made some of the scenes in the beginning very rushed, and made the scenes in the end very slow, and kept on dragging the scenes on and on. Another thing I did not like about the book is how the character development wasn't good. For example, Eoin explained Artemis' backstory and everything about him, but didn't do nearly the same for the other characters in the story, like some of the fairies and even Artemis’s butler, who was a very prominent character in the story. I feel like he could have done a better job of having a little bit more character development for the characters besides Artmis, and it would have been a better story. Overall, I would rate this book a 7.5 out of 10. If you liked this book, you would also enjoy these books:
